The Netherlands and Canada have been connected–politically, economically and socially–for more than three centuries. Many readers may already have heard of the deep gratitude of the Dutch toward Canadians, stemming from Canada's role in liberating the Netherlands from Nazi occupation during World War II. However, until the publication of detailed works by Jan Krijff, little was known about the many elements of the relationship that existed between these two countries before World War I.
