Hot off the Press!
Until we Meet Again is a treasure chest with many hidden jewels awaiting the patient reader: the story of a long-distance romance in the age of postage stamps and letters ... and of the detailed survey work required in the construction of the CPR's subsidiary, the Columbia and Kootenay Railway. What makes this story particularly intriguing for me is that one of my heroes exerts his powerful on Karel's advancement: William Cornelius Van Horne, who became general manager and, later, president of the CPR as it was being pushed westward toward the Rockies. Walter Volovsek, Castlegar historian.
An intriguing view of the pioneer life, the landscape of Alberta, and the people that played a central part in the push westward of the CPR. Erwin van Asbeck, Great-great-grandson of Karel Boissevain
Green and Krijff have found a rare treasure in these letters, painting an authentic picture of the newcomers' experience as they explore the pioneer west. Erin Benedictson, Associate Curator, Lougheed House, Calgary.
A meaningful addition to the social history of Alberta and Canada, this volume will be a treasure for those curious about early Canadiana and the CPR, and invaluable to reseachers. Bonita S. Bjornson, Library manager, archivist. The Kings' University Edmonton.

It is 1891. Karel Boissevain suffered from severe asthma and the 'cure' (according to their family doctor in Amsterdam) was to live and work in the fresh, dry air of Canada. Karel was accompanied by his sister, Heleen, and was forced to leave his fiancee, Wil, and their families behind. Their adventures in Alberta fill the pages of this book, providing new insights into pioneer life in the west that was in such great contrast to their lifestyle in the Netherlands.

Greetings from Canada, written in collaboration with Karen Green, is touching, informative and beautifully presented. Jan's extensive collection of early postcards from Dutch immigrants serve as the vehicle by which their stories are told. Their stories, who they are, where they came from and to whom they are writing, all provide a more complete picture of immigrant life in Canada, as the 19th century made way for the 20th century, and until the start of World War I.

The photos on the postcards show a young Canada boasting of its beauty and growing prosperity. The translated text on the reverse sides offers stories of immigration, marriage, birth and tragic endings. Jan Krijff refers to the postcards as "mini-diaries". The reader will be fascinated and moved by this unique view of Dutch immigration to Canada.

Een Aengenaeme Vrientschap, An Amicable Friendship
A collection of historical events
between the Netherlands and Canada from 1862 to 1914
This amicable friendship is described by Krijff in his second book, published in 2003. He pays special attention to the details of trade and immigration between Canada and the Netherlands before 1914, also surfacing new and surprising contributions from Dutch immigrants, businessmen and politicians during Canada's formative years.

Dutch Immigration to Manitoba in 1893
Krijff's first book, published in 1993, celebrates the one-hundredth anniversary of the first "organized group" of Dutch immigrants to Canada. The story provides additional insight into the political, economic and social issues that affected these immigrants in particular, at the same time informing us of the wider immigrant experience.

Leaving Home Forever
Dutch Pioneers in the Canadian West
Klaas and Reindert de Vries
Foreword by Jan Krijff
The brothers Klaas and Reindert de Vries arrived in Canada in 1892. Their emigration story was originally told through a brochure that was published in the Leewarden Courant, a Dutch newspaper, in October and November of 1892. It was translated into English and published in 1995.
They are considered to be the "vanguard" of the first organized group of Dutch immigrants who arrived in Canada aboard the Numidian, in 1893, the subject of 100 Years Ago, by Krijff.

Winnipeg became the first home in Canada to the DeVries brothers, Klaas and Reindert, who arrived in Canada from Jubbega-Schurega in 1892. Their lengthy letter home prompted the first Dutch group migration to Canada the following year. Eventually, both emigrated again, this time to USA. Klaas settled in Michigan, Reindert near Oak Harbor, Washington State.
